Migration and Mental Health: A Training Workshop for Early Career Researchers
On February 20-21, R4HC Mental Health Workstream in Turkey held its first training workshop at Hacettepe University. The Stress Assessment and Research Center (STAR) in collaboration with the Urban Studies Research Centre at Hacettepe University carried out a 2-day training workshop to increase the research capacity of postgraduate students and early career researchers on migration and mental health topics. The workshop was multiple disciplinary in nature and brought together lecturers from psychiatry, public health and social work departments (Cengiz Kılıç, Özge Karadağ Çaman, Reyhan Atasü-Topçuoğlu, Edip Kaya).
Twenty-six young researchers and postgraduate students from multiple disciplines including public health, psychology, social work, sociology, nurse, nutrition and dietetics, child development and audiology departments participated in the workshop. The workshop included training sessions on quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods mental health research, community-based participatory research approaches, challenges regarding mental health research in the field and related ethical issues, as well as gaps in current research and potential ways for future collaboration among the workshop participants.
