Call for applications: Policy Fellowship Opportunity 2019

Policy makers working in health policy in the Middle East and North African region are invited to apply for a Policy Fellowship opportunity offered by the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) at the University of Cambridge and the Research for Health in Conflict (R4HC-MENA) project.

The Policy Fellowship is a flexible professional development programme which begins with a week spent at the University of Cambridge, King’s College London and other universities involved in the R4HC-MENA project. We anticipate that this introductory week will be during autumn 2019.

Policy Fellows are invited to pose up to 6 policy questions that would benefit from discussion with academic researchers and other experts. We will provide access to leading researchers across a range of disciplines.

We are particularly seeking Policy Fellows who are working on non-communicable disease policies in the region, and those who are working on health policies to meet the needs of migrant and conflict-affected populations. The R4HC-MENA project is funded by the UK’s Global Challenges Research Fund to build research and policy capacity in conflict affected areas, focusing on health, political economy of health, and complex non-communicable diseases such as mental health and cancer, and facilitate more effective translation of research into policy.

The R4HC-MENA project will cover the expenses for the successful candidates to visit Cambridge and London, UK and become a Policy Fellow of the Centre for Science and Policy. Policy Fellows are associated with CSaP and R4HC-MENA for a further two years, alongside their jobs, and have the chance to make the most of connections that they make, to pursue policy objectives with academic input.

The successful candidates are responsible for making their own visa arrangements to visit the UK for a one-week professional visit. While the Centre for Science and Policy can provide letters of invitation to support a visa application, visa decisions are taken by relevant UK government authorities.

Information about the first cohort of Policy Fellows associated with the R4HC-MENA project is available here.

If you are interested in the opportunity, please fill in the application form, and inquiries can be addressed to Nicola Buckley, CSaP Associate Director, at policyfellows@csap.cam.ac.uk . The deadline for applications is 15 July 2019. Applications will be assessed by a selection panel, and we aim to notify successful candidates by the end of July 2019.
